sustainability

At Bella Flowers, we understand the importance of preserving the natural resources and ecosystems that make our business possible.

That’s why we have implemented a range of sustainable practices, such as water conservation and waste reduction, to minimize our environmental footprint.

We also recognize the importance of promoting social and economic development in the communities where we operate, which is why we have established various programs to support the education and well-being of our employees and their families. By embracing sustainability as a core value, we are working to build a brighter and more resilient future for ourselves, our customers, and the world around us.

Environment & Sustainability

Responsible Consumption & Production

Our farm concentrates on environmentally friendly production methods. Our cultivation methods limit the usage of synthetic chemicals. To save water and reduce pollution, the farm employs modern, computerised irrigation systems. Furthermore, the farm strives to reduce waste by composting flower trimmings and using recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials. We also use peat in farming, which consumes less water than regular soil, thereby reducing the amount of water we need.

Life Below Water

As a farm that sits on the outskirts of Lake Muhazi, we actively ensure we throw no waste in the lake. We use ponds on our farm to manage water effectively and sustainably, circumventing the risk of contaminating the lake.

Life on Land

Through sustainable land management methods and conservation activities, we work to maintain and preserve terrestrial ecosystems and the species they support. We accomplish this by conservation and reforestation, as well as controlled farming in our greenhouses to prevent soil damage while we ensure quality production.

Giving Back To The Community

We have provided employment opportunities for over 900 people in the Gishali community where we are headquartered, improving their lives. The farm has a dispensary and canteen for the use of employees, and the workers and staff participate in community activities like Umuganda, where they work with the local community to maintain infrastructure and improve public health through cleaning and sanitation efforts.

We have also participated in other charitable efforts like raising funds and completing a building for one of the Genocide survivors in Gishali.
