Rwandan Flower Dealers Showcase At World’s Largest Expo In Netherlands

Rwandan flower dealers are exhibiting at the 9th edition of flower growers and exporters (IFTF), which opened yesterday at the Expo Haarlemmermeer in Vijfhuizen, the Netherlands.

With a new record high number of exhibitors this year, the exhibition grew 15% in size and living up to its name of being world’s biggest and most important trade exhibition for international flower growers and buyers that participate from all over the world, including Rwanda.

Visitors from over 125 countries attend this yearly trade fair for the international floriculture industry and this number is increasing yearly.

Bella Flowers, Bloomhills and Floramatt are the key floriculture sector players in Rwanda that are co-exhibiting in this year’s exhibition and are facilitated through a joint collaboration of the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in the Netherlands and the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).

Rwanda’s Ambassador to Netherlands, Jean Pierre Karabaranga, who attended the event, said that, ‘It is an honour to welcome the delegation from Rwanda to the IFTF in the Netherlands, which is a crucial market place where demand meets supply in the field of cut flowers and plants. The Rwandan floriculture sector adds more flavours to the diversity of products on display and will definitely create new business opportunities for the attending buyers.”

The delegation is led by Sandrine Urujeni, the NAEB Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

She said Floriculture has been identified as a top priority export sector and one of the promising sector to draw Foreign Direct Investments. The Government of Rwanda has earmarked specific sites and has invested extensively in enabling infrastructure for floriculture.

“Over 100ha is currently earmarked and available for floriculture investors to invest in,” she said on the first day of IFTF.

In addition to roses and summer flowers we have been offering on the market, we are exhibiting a new flower “Gentian” first grown on African continent and now on the Dutch market.

The ‘Rwandafresh’ stand/booth is located in Hall E, stand 4.01, which is the center of contact to welcome new buyers of Rwandan roses and summer flowers.
